Using CashSpan
Getting started
CashSpan starts from four things: your available balance (the funds you can actually use today), the balance date that balance was true, the income you expect, and the expenses you know about.
Enter the balance first, then add income and expenses with their dates. CashSpan builds a 90-day projection from that starting point — the more complete your entries, the more useful the projection.
What Current, Conservative, and Expected mean
Current uses only your available funds and essential expenses — the cautious floor.
Conservative is Current plus income you have marked as confirmed.
Expected is Conservative plus expected income and flexible expenses. Expected income is uncertain by definition, and CashSpan always labels it that way.
Why CashSpan may show a projected shortfall
A projected shortfall appears when the first dated entry would cause the selected scenario’s running balance to become negative. It is an estimate from your entries, not a prediction of what your bank will do — adding a missing income entry, rescheduling an expense, or correcting an amount can change or remove it. Open the timeline to see exactly which entry causes it.
Repeating schedules
Income and expenses can repeat weekly, every two weeks, twice monthly (for example the 1st and 15th), or monthly. Edit a repeating entry to change its schedule; the projection updates immediately.
Reconciling entries
As real life happens, mark each entry received, paid, rescheduled, skipped, or leave it still pending. Reconciling keeps the projection honest — CashSpan cannot see your accounts, so the plan is only as current as your last reconciliation.
Backup, restore, CSV, and reports
Create a full backup from Settings and save it anywhere you choose; restoring replaces the app’s current data with the backup contents. You can also import and export entries as CSV, and generate plan reports to share through the standard iOS share sheet. Exports and reports go only to the destinations you select.
Optional iCloud Drive sync
iCloud Drive sync is off by default. When enabled, it uses your own Apple account and private iCloud container. NovoBuild does not receive the synced copy and cannot access or recover your plan — if you lose access to your device and your iCloud account, NovoBuild has no copy to restore from.
Privacy lock & discreet notifications
The optional privacy lock protects CashSpan with your device’s own authentication (Face ID, Touch ID, or passcode). Notifications and the widget are designed to be discreet: they do not display balance amounts or entry details on the lock screen.
Deleting your data
To erase everything, open Settings → Delete all CashSpan data. Deleting the app also removes its local data, subject to normal device backups you control. Because NovoBuild never receives your plan, there is nothing to delete on a server.
Watching the tutorial again
