CashSpan Projection Methodology

Effective date: July 18, 2026 · Last updated: July 18, 2026

CashSpan creates a deterministic 90-day projection from your available balance, its anchor date, and the entries saved in your plan. The same inputs always produce the same projection — there is no hidden model and no guesswork beyond what you entered.

How entries are applied

  • Entries are applied in date order across the 90-day window.
  • On the same date, income is applied before expenses.
  • Essential expenses are applied before flexible expenses.

The three projections

  • Current — your available funds and essential expenses only.
  • Conservative — Current, plus income you have marked as confirmed.
  • Expected — Conservative, plus expected income and flexible expenses.

Expected income is uncertain by definition. CashSpan always describes it as uncertain wherever it appears — an expected amount is a possibility you chose to plan around, not money that has arrived.

Reserve floor

A reserve floor is a planning threshold you choose for yourself — a line you would prefer your projected balance not to cross. It is not money guaranteed to be available, and it is not an amount that is safe to spend.

The first projected shortfall

The first projected shortfall is the first dated entry that would cause the selected scenario’s running balance to become negative. Because it is calculated from your entries, it can move or disappear as your plan changes.

When results change

Projections recalculate whenever the plan changes — when you edit, confirm, receive, pay, reschedule, or skip an entry, or when you import, restore, or sync plan information.

What the methodology does not include

CashSpan does not connect to a financial institution and cannot reconcile against actual transactions automatically. Reconciliation is manual and under your control, and the projection is only as current as your last update.
